MONUMENTS OF THE CAMINO IN LUGO

CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA LA REAL IN PEDRAFITA DO CEBREIRO

An example of Galician early-medieval architecture from the mid-9th century, created as a guesthouse for pilgrims on one of the last stages to Santiago. It is home to genuine gems such as the chalice, the paten and the reliquary, the first two being extraordinarily interesting Romanesque gold- and silversmithing items.

CHURCH OF SANTIAGO IN BARBADELO DE SARRIA

Erected in the 12th century on a previous double monastery (one for nuns, the other for monks), nowadays it is known as “Mosteiro”. It still retains part of its Romanesque originality, blended with further elements added in the 18th century.

San Nicolás de Portomarín

This fortified temple was built in the 13th century by the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem. It was rebuilt stone by stone in the current site since, otherwise, in 1963 it would have drowned under the waters of the reservoir being built at that time. It consists of a nave with five sections covered with a ribbed pointed barrel vault. The towers have a crenellated finish.

CHURCH OF SAN SALVADOR IN VILAR DE DONAS

The church was part of a female “mosteiro” (monastery, in Galician) where the ladies of the Arias de Monterroso lineage professed their vows (hence the nickname "de Donas"). It is a beautiful example of Romanesque porticoed temple.
