CHURCH OF SAN JUAN DE ORTEGA
Juan de Ortega, born in 1080, was a disciple of Santo Domingo de la Calzada. He did a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and, upon his return, promoted the building of hospitals, churches and bridges on the Camino. The church is from the 12th century, therefore in Romanesque style, as is the magnificent mausoleum and the tomb of the saint.
ARCHAELOGICAL SITE OF ATAPUERCA
The oldest human remains in the Iberian Peninsula have been discovered at this archaeological and paleontological site. In 2000 it was declared a World Heritage Site. It is here that the oldest documented record in Spanish is kept.

BURGOS CATHEDRAL
Construction began in 1221 by order of king Fernando III the Saint. It is one of the most important artistic monuments on the Camino. The similarities it holds with the great Gothic cathedrals of northern France are clear to see. Among other, the following medieval elements stand out: the two twin towers, the reliefs on the Gate of “Sarmental”, the “trasaltar” (space behind the altar), the chapel of the Constable, the dome and the cloister. But its Renaissance elements also win our attention: the choir stalls, the Golden Stairs, the main altarpiece. It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1984.
MONASTERY OF SANTA MARÍA LA REAL DE LAS HUELGAS IN BURGOS
Monastic complex in Mudejar style consisting of a church, cloisters, chapels and gardens. It is the main Cistercian female monastery in Spain and the head of all those that were founded in the kingdom of Castile. Future kings were knighted, crowned and ultimately buried here.

ARCH OF SANTA MARÍA
This arch stands opposite the Arlanzón river walk. Built with the characteristically whitish stone of Burgos, this monumental city gate mixes the medieval with the novel Renaissance style. The sculptures of kings and nobles are distributed in a series of niches that remind of an altarpiece.
COLLEGIATE CHURCH OF SANTA MARÍA DEL MANZANO IN CASTROJERIZ
13th-century church, begun in Romanesque style and finished in Gothic style. It was later enlarged in the 17th century. It is home to the venerated statue of Nuestra Señora del Manzano (“Our Lady of the Apple Tree”).
