MUST-SEES

  • Church of Santa María del Camino: the size of this church in the 12th century was comparable to that of cathedrals from the same period, which gives us an idea of its importance. It holds a special pilgrim blessing ceremony during the high season from May to October.
  • Christ Pantocrator of the Church of Santiago: the Romanesque western façade with its doorway and renowned sculpted frieze is a must-see. The portico of Saint James is the only original element from the 12th century church. Currently no religious services are held in it.
  • Benedictine Monastery of San Zoilo: governed by the Abbey of San Pedro of Cluny since 1076, it was one of the first buildings in Cluniac Romanesque style in the Iberian Peninsula. A cloister was attached to the Romanesque construction at the end of the Gothic period, which is considered one of the most beautiful of its time in Spain. Today, the building has been adapted and turned into a hotel with historical charm.
